Our Story
Memory, Made Wearable
Chapter One: The Origin
HAZEL began as a hobby, not a business. In 2014, in a small neighborhood in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Vaishali Bamb a self-taught designer with a childhood love for fabric painting and threadwork-began restoring old sarees for women who could not bear to part with them.
A grandmother's saree was turned into a granddaughter's lehenga, and a mother's wedding silk was reborn for her daughter's haldi.
It was memory, made wearable.
During these years, Vaishali noticed a quiet hunger across India's smaller cities.
Women had impeccable taste, clear intention, and discretionary income, yet lacked a designer house to call their own.
While metros boasted names like Sabyasachi and Anita Dongre, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities relied heavily on local tailors and showrooms-leaving a significant gap in between.
In 2015, HAZEL filled that void, opening as the only designer studio in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in an intimate 400-square-foot space.
This milestone year was simultaneously marked by unimaginable personal tragedy with the sudden passing of her husband.
Turning grief into a driving force, Vaishali drew upon the formidable entrepreneurial spirit she first honed as a top-tier direct seller, dedicating herself entirely to nurturing her nascent studio.
"Every woman deserves a designer experience, not just the wealthy ones. A garment should carry memory - fabric, embroidery, and fit should feel personal, never mass-produced." — Vaishali A. Bamb, Founder & Chief Designer
Chapter Two:
The Decade of Growth
Through sheer resilience and an unwavering commitment to her craft, the business transformed rapidly over the next decade.
2019: HAZEL evolved into an end-to-end family customization studio, designing and manufacturing entire wedding wardrobes in-house.
2023: The brand moved into a 5,000-square-foot exclusive flagship housing over 250 curated fabrics and a dedicated in-house atelier of designers, karigars, and tailors.
2025: Responding to a cultural shift toward Gen-Z occasion-wear, the House of HAZEL officially launched SEHER.
From generating ₹5 lakh in monthly revenue in 2015 to ₹1.5 crore today, HAZEL has grown its distribution across seven states. It has achieved thirty times the business with none of the dilution.
Chapter Three:
The House of HAZEL
Today, our house is built around two distinct labels, sharing one studio, one standard, and one design soul:
HAZEL: The Mother House
Premium designer occasion-wear, bridal, and heirloom restoration.
Philosophy: "For the woman who remembers what she wore."
SEHER: The Younger Sister
Indo-western and contemporary wear for women aged 18 to 28. Named after Vaishali's children, Sejal and Harsh.
Philosophy: "For the woman she is becoming." Built for national D2C scale.
Chapter Four:
What We Stand For
Pure Cloth
We do not mislabel; there is no polyester passed off as silk, nor power loom disguised as handloom. What we say it is, is exactly what it is.
Honest Pricing
HAZEL is priced as a premium designer house, while SEHER is built and priced for accessibility. We do not blur the two.
Hands That Stay
Three of our tailors and three of our senior sales staff have been with us since the early years. Our customers feel this loyalty in every garment.
Purpose & Community
Our commitment extends to social welfare through the Chaaya Foundation, providing vital financial assistance for education and supporting the elderly.
Chapter Five: Where We Are Going
Our vision for the future is clear. HAZEL will become Maharashtra's most respected designer house, establishing flagships in select Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities without ever franchising or diluting the brand. Simultaneously, SEHER will emerge as a national D2C label, dressing the next generation of Indian women in clothing that is rooted enough to mean something, yet modern enough to wear anywhere.
